Abstract
Aiming to foster multidisciplinary learning,
research excellence, digital integration, and global competitiveness. This
paper examines the key reforms introduced by NEP 2020,
including flexible degree structures, the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC),
the National Research Foundation (NRF), and internationalisation efforts. While
the policy presents significant opportunities—such as enhanced
employability, inclusivity, and technological advancement—it also
faces critical challenges, including funding shortages, faculty
resistance, bureaucratic delays, and infrastructural gaps.
Through comparative analysis with NEP 1986, case studies of early
implementation (e.g., Delhi University’s FYUP, Karnataka’s adoption), and
policy recommendations, this study highlights the roadblocks and potential
pathways for successful execution. The findings suggest
that effective collaboration between government, academia, and industry,
along with increased investment and faculty training, will be crucial in
realising NEP 2020’s vision of making India a global knowledge superpower.
